The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!
With the calendar showing “DECEMBER”, it is undeniable that we are solidly in the middle of the holiday season. We see the twinkling lights, the green & red decorations, hear the music, and feel the hustle & bustle. As we drive to holiday gatherings, cookie exchanges, and busy shopping centers, we see an increased number of semi-trucks and trailers on the roads.
Do you ever stop and wonder what all is loaded in those trailers? How much is actually being transported? Where is it all going? According to the American Trucking Association, semi-trailers in the US transport approximately 11.4 billion tons of freight each year! That is a HUGE amount of stuff. You can see it. But, if you look closely to what isn’t always visible at first sight, it’s actually so much more than tonnage…beyond the actual items being transported, those semi-trailers are transporting something that can’t be weighed or measured or quantified. They are transporting hope, love, and joy.

One clear example where this can be seen is in the trailers transporting live balsam veterans’ wreaths with WREATHS across AMERICA (WAA). Last year, WAA placed more than 3 million wreaths on the headstones of our nation’s heroes at over 4,200 locations across the United States. At first glance, they are just wreaths. But this is just a fraction of what they actually are …they are remembrance of the fallen who have given so much to our country, an expression of gratitude & appreciation for those who have served, an opportunity to teach the next generation the value of freedom, and hope for a better future.
For the past three years, during this special time of year, Desert Trailer Systems has been honored to donate the use of a semi-trailer for this special task. This year in particular, our trailer will travel between Arizona and New Mexico transporting these precious wreaths. But that’s just the trailer. It is the Truck Drivers that are the backbone of efforts such as this one who volunteer their time and professional expertise to deliver this precious cargo to a growing number of locations across the US, and we are so thankful for them.
